Tactical
holsters are designed for quick and easy access to a firearm, another
weapon or device. In tactical situations keeping a firearm as secure
as a duty police officer could be the difference between being shot
or doing the shooting. Duty holsters are designed to keep a weapon in
place until absolutely necessary. That protects criminals from stealing
the weapon in hand to hand combat, which is preferred over shooting
first. In tactical situations most of the combat is done from a larger
distance, and being able to access a weapon or ammo easily is more important
the holster security.
Many tactical holsters are designed to be worn on legs, arms, or torso
as opposed to just at the waist. Often a special harness can be found
that allows the gun holster to be switched around from hip to leg, or
torso and back again. Having multiple firing and defensive options is
important when being attacked. Many of these holsters allow for easy
and quick access to the weapon.
Tactical holsters are designed for specific environments and fighting
situations as well. In harsh, hot and sandy conditions, as well as cold
and wet conditions, a firearm must be protected from the elements to
often a cover is integrated into the holsters for these environments.
It takes longer to draw the weapon, but keeps it safe from corrosive
elements that can clog a firearm preventing it from functioning.
