One of the most basic of police canine equipment is the bite sleeve. These are designed to be worn over the arm and are used to train police dogs how to take down a suspect. Leg sleeves are also available for this same purpose. There are many models available depending on the size of the dog and the training.

Bite suits are also common items of police canine equipment. These made from the same materials as most bite sleeves, but are designed to cover the entire body. They are heavily padded to protect the wearer from the dog but are designed to be flexible to allow the decoy a great deal of movement.

Many military dogs are fitted with goggles. These are used during training exercises to protect the dogs from flying debris. They have also become popular with military dogs in Iraq, as they help protect them from sand.
