Police badges are an important part of police work. They identify the wearer as one who has been trained and certified as a public servant and emergency worker. Police wear or carry their badges with pride.

Police badges come in a wide range of colors and styles. Police departments usually have their specific styles chosen for the uniform. When a new officer is hired to the force, the badge will be made to match the rest of the partners in the department and help designate that person as an officer.

Police badges come most often in the shape of a shield or a star. Some are silver or chrome-plated, while others are gold in color. Many police badge vendors will allow for custom made badges for fun and novelty purposes.
